Long-distance move from Georgetown, SC to Charlotte, NC

Don’t

Interstate move with three months storage in between. Move out went well enough. Move in was plagued by false information, complete failure to return calls, disappearing drivers, inadequate crew numbers and expertise (to move our piano), three separate deliveries due to incomplete loading, attempts to add hundreds of extra charges, and just all around lack of caring. Promised the moon and stars by sales, abandoned when troubles they caused surfaced.as evidenced by not a single apology. Damaged items too.

WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE EVER

WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. BE PREPARED TO DEAL WITH A COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT MOVERS, MOVING COORDINATERS AND MANAGERS. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS ME USE ANOTHER COMPANY!!!!

DETAILS:

06/11/2024 Pickup date of all requested inventory:

• Driver called @ 8:44 am eastern time stating the truck would arrive @ 9:10 am eastern time.

• NOTE: When the movers arrived, they did not have the appropriate equipment:

o They did not have any tools to disassemble the furniture. So I had to provide them the tools, even though I am the client and I am the one moving.

o They also did not have enough blanket and wrapping materials for the furniture so the inexperienced mover who was the driver went back to the Coleman office and that trip took roughly about 2 hours.

• The truck arrived @ 9:05am eastern time to begin loading the furniture .

o NOTE: There were two delivery points as agreed upon.

• One mover (the driver. The driver’s name was Terica.) was experienced and the other was not. The inexperienced mover was completely lost and spent several hours doing inventory as she did not know what to do and her colleague had to explain everything to her multiple times and she still could not comprehend what he was saying.

• While the experienced mover packed and wrapped items. The inexperienced mover was trying to figure out what to do. The experience mover overwrapped and some of the items and time could have been saved with less wrapping.

• I made two calls to Lydia Coleman (The moving Coordinator) starting @ 3:53 pm and then again @ 4:49 pm complaining about the pace of the movers and that they needed additional help. She never ever called me back with any updates. Lydia, the moving coordinators knew nothing about the movers who were sent to load the truck. I never ever heard from Lydia again that day who is the moving coordinator to confirm the following (The questions that keeps coming to my mind as client, what was the moving coordinator doing? Did she actually serve any value or purpose throughout this moving process?):

 Did the additional help show up?

• Additional assistance finally arrived around 5:30pm eastern time in the form of the Operations Manager, Joe, who got the movers to work faster. Joe realized that the movers should have been completed by now. Joe told the movers the way they were packing the truck through the side door was incorrect. Joe had to instruct the experienced mover how to park the truck so that they could be move efficient in loading the truck.

Joe realized additional help was needed, so he called Tony, the dispatch manager to come and help.

• The move was so inadequately planned for even though Coleman was provided with the inventory list prior to the move., that they had to leave all the ramps and pallets in my garage to be picked up the next day because they did not bring the right size van.

• By the time the movers left and the loading was completed, it was 7:51pm.

• So the movers arrived @ 9:05am eastern time and left 7:51pm eastern and that means the entire move took 10 hours and 46 minutes. When they finally left, Tony and the driver (experienced mover) finally admitted, that they needed to send additional experienced resources when she is working. Tony admitted, that he did not send enough resources on this job. This was a conversation he had with the driver (inexperienced mover) in the drive way.

• Joe the operations manager mentioned that because they bought the truck with too many ramps and palettes, those had to be left behind and picked up the next day on 06/12. This was a result of the this company not knowing what is the proper tools, resources and materials to the move. The next day when the same driver (Terica) arrived to pick up the ramps. She met in an accident out of the sub division.) She finally was able to pick up the ramps. My point here is that as a client I was beyond more than obliging and the moving company did not reciprocate by sending an experienced movers, provide appropriate resourcing, supervision, tools and materials for the move.

• This extremely dissatisfied moving experience provided by moving company made a very stressful process of moving my elderly mom even more stressful. I don’t believe it should have come to this had the moving company provided the correct amount of experienced human resources, tools, materials, etc. The moving company chose to let an experienced driver who has admitted that this is her first move lead the move and as a client we should suffer for bad decision making by Coleman Allied. The experience was so bad that we do not want another coleman allied employee or van near our homes.

Long-distance move from Texas to Michigan

Coleman American--Generally Pleased.

I helped my mom move from TX to MI. She needed a lot of help, and felt more confident in Coleman America as they sent a person out to assess the amount of goods and give price quote. The price was higher than what we received from others that we just called or did an on-line form, but I think it was better the person saw the stuff. The packers and loaders came one time and did a good job--our one complaint was they threw literally everything not nailed down into a box, but I suppose that is their job. The delivery came on the first day on the window, which was good, and Richard (the driver) was very courteous and helpful. The initial unloading team, however, walked off the job after a couple of hours--one guy (Gary) got mad at Richard, they began yelling at each other, and Gary threatened Richard with violence.. Very unpleasant. A new team came a couple of hours later and the unpacking was done pretty efficiently.
Except for this last problem, I would say that the move went about as well as we could have hoped. Packing and loading took two full days, but my mom has a lot of stuff.

Long-distance move from Mount Pleasant, SC to Fairfax, VA

You’re moving, not your belongings

Where to begin? We moved from SC to VA. The movers showed up when they were supposed to, just to lull us into a false sense of security. They gave us a six day delivery window. We heard nothing during that time (common theme). So I called them on day 5/6. And to my surprise, our belongings had not even left SC. And even better, they couldn't tell me when they would arrive. After 5 days of radio silence, we found out our belongings would be delivered 10 days late. They told us to buy what we needed to get by, and they'd reimburse us. Another lie. Our belongings arrived with many boxes damaged, our antique dining room set damaged, and all of the hardware for all of our beds and dining tables missing. Their reply is the picture of indifference. RUN, DONT WALK AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!

Worst Possible Moving Experience.

We have moved 7 times in the past 10 years. Our move with Coleman-Allied was hands-down the worst experience we have ever had to endure. From packing to unloading, this was the single worst moving experience we have ever had and we plan to share our horrible experience with every person we know to prevent other families from experiencing the nightmare move this company provided.

While I don’t have time to outline each and every awful component of the move, below are a series of highlights.

-There is a major gap between the items salesperson, Jim Rhoades, said we needed to hire a third-party service for what the movers would actually pack or put together. My husband had to removed and pack 5 TVs at the 11th hour because of this miscommunication. Additionally, our $4,000 elliptical still sits in pieces because Jim said we didn’t need a third party service for that item but the movers couldn’t get it into our current basement and weren’t capable or willing to dissemble and reassemble the arms to get it in the appropriate space.

-Anna VanderWoude, our so-called moving coordinator, failed to do even her most basic job of direct billing my husband’s company, even though she was given the appropriate contact information WEEKS before the move. She called us THE DAY of the move, gave a weak apology and asked us to pay the full 13k fee. Anna said the movers wouldn’t begin to unload our possessions unless we put the fee on our personal credit card.

-The move took over 3 days because of insufficient planning. At 8pm on day 2 of the move, our driver realized that all of our items wouldn’t fit and said he would have to come back first thing in the morning with an additional truck. This caused me to miss both of my son’s end of the year class parties, their last event with their friends because I was waiting for the driver who didn’t arrive until after 10 am. From 8am-10am I collected over 65 spare flat pack boxes, 25 moving blankets, 5 packed boxes and a slew of tape, trash and others left strewn around my home.

-When our items were finally unloaded, they came in two shipments, two days apart. The crew was visibly scatter and verbally upset that the load had been unloaded in the warehouse and they were certain where multiple pieces were left. Jim Rhoades, had previously assured me that our items would NOT be unloaded from our trucks.

-The final day of the move was complete chaos. The hardware for the pool table was missing. My washing machine was visibly damaged and contained no knob. Hardware seemed to be missing from all furniture and I spent my entire day trying to track down poorly packed or missing hardware.

It has been over 3 weeks since the move and I still can’t wash my family’s laundry because my 2 year old washing machine is completely broken. My basement living room, which we’re using as a kitchen during a renovation, is unsafe and barely usable because of the unassembled pool table that takes up the majority of the space. We have over $7,000 in damaged, missing or stolen items. We have emailed, called and completed all necessary claims. NO ONE from the Nashville or corporate offices have emailed or called us about making the necessary repairs or to even utter an apology for the horrific service we received.

We are now pursuing legal action against the negligent company of Coleman-Allied. Please DO NOT use this company, as they are dishonest, unresponsive, and could care less about their customers.

Terrible!

Terrible! The movers were late, the sales person grossly underestimated my shipment weight which caused a large increase in price (9k lbs estimate, 14k lbs actual), this led to not being able to fit all our stuff on the truck (the overflow arrived a week after everything else), they damaged the house we left, and upon arrival found several broken items and nearly everything covered in filth. AND the process to get property damage repaired is beyond explanation. 3 weeks had past before I finally just paid out of my own pocket to have the wall in the house fixed. They offered no reimbursement and through all of this I was never once contacted by a manager even though I was told the manager was notified of the situation. Nothing the sales rep told me was going to happen did. It was all false promises. I even paid for the premium insurance and that was a huge waste. Of all the military moves I have done, this was the worst experience I have ever had moving. This company DOES NOT care about their clients.

Long-distance move from Katy, TX to Rockville, MD

Very disappointed by the quality of services.

I and my wife used Coleman services to move from Texas to Maryland in May 2019.

All we can say is that we are very disappointed by the quality of service provided. Coleman was one of the most expensive moving companies we considered and we decided to go for it to avoid issues for which cheaper companies are generally known for. Sadly, the actual moving process was a disaster:

- The movers for the pickup showed up late, understaffed and unfit to the job: they just could not carry the boxes down the stairs (we lived on the 3rd floor) and I had to assist them, carrying myself about half of the boxes.

- They also did not bring enough wrapping material, ending up wrapping partly the furniture into paper, but promised that the furniture would get wrapped into moving blankets once they reached the warehouse and before departure to the destination.

- This was a lie since, at delivery, all furniture was wrapped in the exact same condition. Of course, most of them got damaged during transport.

- We could also have a look inside the truck and it looked like all boxes had just been tossed around, definitely not piled up the way they should. About half of the boxes were upside down (and I can confirm that they were loaded upright during the pickup). Some items contained in the boxes got damaged as well.

- Even worse, our furniture and boxes were mixed up with another delivery, which made the delivery a pain since I had to confirm, one by one, which furniture was mine and which was not. In the end, we were missing an item, which got brought back to us about 2 weeks later.

We complained to the customer service but were not interested to file a claim for damages since none of our pieces of furniture were of real value. Getting some money back for replacing the damaged parts are not worth it, taking into account the troubles of driving to the store to get the parts, unassembling the furniture, then reassembling it.
We asked for a partial refund that was denied without any discussion.
Oh well, lesson learned.

In State move

Sadly I would NOT recommend! We had over 27 items damaged or destroyed in our move - it was from Tyrone to Senoia and the attitude of the driver and his crew completely unprofessional. Also the sales rep drops you like a hot potato when you inquire about your damage. They may have been the better price initially but you paid for it in the end. Thought we could TRUST a national name like Allied but unfortunately not.

Horrible service

Worst experience of my life. $26,000 to move our stuff across country. Broke or destroyed things like our poop table, washing machine, beds, clocks, every box labeled fragile looked like it was drug behind the truck the entire way. The unloading movers that showed up were drug addicts. Been waiting for 2 months for them to assemble the items they took apart because they didn’t leave any of the hardware. The truck driver called me the night before to ask if I knew anyone to unload our stuff. Not professional at all

Buyer beware!! They are terrible, will rip you off, and claim zero accountability! Unethical, unprofessional, and lack any accountability at all and nothing the poor consumer can do. #sad I am dealing with parent Allied and Sirva as well and basically getting finger pointing. In the meantime, we are missing a 75in TV, tool box, 15 boxes, golf clubs, furniture parts box, broken furniture, etc...... I hope their employees enjoy my stuff.

Allied Coleman American Van Lines Disaster!

The living room furniture cannot be used until fixed. For several items, something happened when they were disassembled or reassembled. A number of items that were disassembled have been stripped and the screws do not hold the parts in place.

Someone needs to come by to reassemble several items properly. Someone needs to come by to assess the damages for compensation.

Needless to say, we are not pleased with the condition of our items. For the price we paid, Allied should have done better.

As a comparison, we paid Two Men and A Truck $5,500 to move the same furniture from Atlanta to Miami two years ago. A couple of items got chipped. The problem with that company is they took too long unloading and reassembling the shipment.

We paid Allied twice as much. We evidently paid for more personnel: two people to box items; four people to load disassemble and load items; three people to unload and reassemble items.

Review of Coleman/Allied Movers.

Allied Moving Company was hired to move household goods from a 2-story house near Houston, TX to a 3-bedroom apartment in San Antonio, TX.  The salesman was professional and easy to work with. The problems began the day of the move.  The movers were 2 hours late and claimed their truck broke down.  The driver never called to keep us informed, his cell e-mail hadn't been established (didn't answer when called) and we had to call the salesman who called the dispatcher who called the driver.  Of the 3-man moving crew, it was the first day for one.  The driver disparaged him to us throughout the day saying he was slow and causing delays.  Overall, the driver was surly and uncooperative.  For the last hour or so of the move we were continually asked whether the movers were taking certain objects.  Our answer was consistently "Of course you are.  We don't have another moving truck in the driveway ready to take all of the items you don't want to take."  By the end of the 7 hour ordeal, the driver left a number of items stating that we had either exceeded our carton count or they couldn't take certain items.  Now, I understand being prohibited from taking hazardous materials, but they left things like mirrors, kitchen items and mops/brooms.  I told the driver that if he had an issue with the weight of the load or the number of cartons he should take it up with the salesman because he's the one who came to the house and provided the written estimate. On the day of delivery, the movers were 4 hours late.  I had a conversation with the driver at the end of pick-up about the time we could expect delivery.  You would think after being late and not calling on the front end, that the driver would have learned that we expected to be kept informed about their delivery progress.  No such luck.  Again, I had to call the salesman who called the dispatcher who called the driver who called me.  The driver claimed to have been delayed by an accident in Houston, but he would pick up his crew in San Antonio and be there between 12 and 12:30 pm.  They arrived close to 1:30 pm.  I wouldn't have needed to take the entire day off of work had I know how late they would be. While waiting for the movers to arrive, I called the salesman and explained all of the issues we were having with the driver and that I'd like to see some amount of the bill returned to me.  He indicated that he would pass the information on to the GM and that I'd be hearing from him. During the course of the delivery, I saw movers unwrap furniture and set it directly on a cement driveway (and the driver later admitted that he saw the same thing, which makes you wonder why he didn't say anything to the crew members).  Naturally, this resulted in damage.  I have moved many times and, frankly, I've never seen anywhere near this level of damage. Crew members were arguing with each other about the work load, etc. and finally, I started putting the beds and other furniture together just to get it done. There was also delivery to a storage unit and with the crew members still arguing amongst themselves, placed the items in storage roughly and haphazardly.  I wanted them gone and out of our lives, but I know at some point I'm going to need to take everything out of the storage unit and re-pack it. By the way, it's been a week after delivery and neither the salesman or the GM has contacted me about all of the problems and possible return of a portion of the amount I paid.  I'm finishing the claims form and I hope that's an easier process that dealing with the moving company. Run, don't walk, away from Coleman/Allied.  The worst, most unprofessional, damage-inflicting movers it's been my displeasure to have run across.  If I ever move again, I'll sell everything I own before allowing Coleman/Allied to move one item.  You've been warned.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Virginia

Terrible Experience.

Just stay away from them, it's as simple as that. It started out good, the sales rep was excellent and very efficient. The actual movers were beyond terrible. Most of my furniture was damaged or destroyed during delivery. When I added up my claim that I filed the total was $11,566.00! The insurance company is even worse to deal with. I have been over a month without a washing machine. They broke the control knob off during delivery and still have not fixed the machine. They also destroyed and damaged custom made Amish furniture. They will not replace the items, only say they will repair to an almost new condition which is acceptable to their standards. I have no say in the matter according to them. Well, I am disputing the charge for the move ,filing a claim with the FMCSA, AMSA and BBB. We will see how they like that.

Long-distance move from Seattle, WA to Austin, TX

Charged me $1000 more over Coleman estimate for my Move.

The salesperson spent 2 hours at my home convincing me that he was 90% plus accurate on his estimates. I painstakingly got manufacture weight, weighed it and had measurements of my items. He told me that he did not believe I would even meet the minimum weight with not many items, my best bet was to just go with a weigh instead of an all in flat fee.
My items were moved from Seattle to Austin. Certain items did not show up, the mover acknowledged some misses and promised to get them delivered to me. I reported a few items damaged, they promised the claims department would call me. Then, I started getting extra charges on my credit card. I called them requested a meeting with their corporate headquarters, they confirmed a date and time - the call not only never happened, the original moving coordinator would not take my calls. Right after, I started getting Certified Letters from corporate demanding more money, additional charges. They are trying to charge me to move an entire household, I only had 1/3 of a small UHaul van (yes that's what the locals picked it up in). To date, no one from local or corporate will discuss the situation. I acknowledged via my VM & emails that I would report them to the Attorney Generals Office, I got another Certified Demand Letter. The business practices at this company are not fair or reasonable. As a business woman that negotiates contracts for a living with small & large business with attorneys all over the world. I found this company follows deceptive & unfair business practices. Buyers Beware!

Long-distance move from Olathe, KS to Great Falls, MT

10 days late and lies upon lies.

Wish I could give them 1 star! Charged over $10,000 to move us from Olathe to Montana. We were promised a stress-free move if we bought the best insurance ($2300) so we would have no worries. The load was supposed to leave Olathe 12/26 and arrive in Montana 12/29. We loaded the dog and family in the car and made the drive.
Our new beautiful 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom house remained empty until the furniture was finally delivered on 1/8. 10 days late..every day we reached out to the moving manager, dispatcher and customer service hotline for updates. 2 out of the 3 lied every day IF our call was even responded to. We were told everything from the furniture would be delivered the next day (6 days we were told this), the furniture had been given to a 3rd party vendor and they were unable to locate it, the truck broke down and our furniture was someplace along the route, it was in the warehouse and they could not find a driver to go to Montana, the driver never came back from Louisiana and it was being sent by rail car since Great Falls was so hard to get to.
We were warned the driveway must be shoveled and we must be home for the delivery or WE would be violating the terms of the contract and they would not deliver until we covered THEIR damages.
We were told most of the workers give the company "line" to take off the liability from the company.
Customer service (we have names and dates) told us since the delivery of our furniture was indefinitely delayed, we would be reimbursed for lodging, food and required incidentals.
We filed the claim as we were told, and 80% of it was denied. They refuse to pay for food as we submitted itemized food receipts from the grocery. They will only pay if we submitted itemized receipts from restaurants. We were not going to take the whole family to a restaurant for 3 meals a day. It was a scam..they would have found a way to reject those too. Then they say they never authorized incidentals. Laundry, dry cleaning, and shoes were all we requested. We were starting a new job, middle school and my husband who drives OTR could not take any jobs as he had to be home since they kept promising the delivery for the next day (again..it was a 10 day delay). The entire amount of the reimbursement for a 10 day delay was $2400. We also requested an adjusted bill due to the deceitful sales practices and poor service. We were told by Samantha in claims that their policy is they only have to deliver items from A to B..and they did their job. We were entitled to nothing more, per policy.
We learned one more thing..an A+ with the Better Business Bureau only means the company responded to the complaint, not remediated the issue to the clients satisfaction.
Coleman Allied's parent company also owns North American Van Lines and the insurance company used to pay (or not pay) the claims.

The final delivery was also a circus. The boxes were not put in the rooms indicated on the box, and so many boxes were put in wrong rooms they could not even get the beds in..and this was moving a 3 bedroom house to a 5 bedroom house. They did not even put the doors on the fridge as they said they did not know how, and someone would be here the next day to do the assembly. That was 17 days ago..we have heard nothing and have not had our calls returned. We will happily pay a professional to take care of this, as we want this ordeal with Coleman/Allied to be over. I just want others to not have to deal with this horrible company. It certainly ruined our holidays, and created significant issues since we had family here to help unpack the 29th..and with a broken shoulder..impossible to do myself.

Long-distance move from Nebraska to Kentucky

Very poor customer service.

I apologize for the length of this review -- if you don't want the gory details please scroll to the bottom for a summary. My family recently used an Allied company out of Omaha, NE to move to Lexington, KY. The Omaha company is Coleman American. Initially, I felt Coleman gave us a fast and fair estimate and that is why we chose them for our move. We utilized their packing service as well as temporary storage and moving. The team that came to pack up our house, move some things to storage and some things to our apartment was professional and courteous.Unfortunately, when it came time for our items to be moved and delivered to our new home in Lexington, the problems began. We were given a delivery window and so we planned to have our children in a summer camp during this week so we could unpack in peace. Coleman knew about our closing date for our new home and our desired move-in dates 4 months in advance. One week prior to our expected delivery date I called and they could not tell me when the truck was going to be on the way. 2 days prior to the expected delivery date they told me that everything was on schedule for a Monday delivery. Monday they told me it would be Tuesday. Tuesday they told me it would be Friday. When I complained to the receptionist she transferred me to the "guy in the warehouse" and he told me that the truck wasn't even in Nebraska and he had no idea when the delivery would be made. When I questioned the receptionist she said "just because your stuff is on the truck, doesn't mean we know when it is going to be delivered". When I then spoke to the manager he informed me that the moving truck had actually broken down in another state and that was why it was going to be the end of the week.Had they simply called me and been direct about the unfortunate truck breakdown I probably would have been more understanding, but the fact that I had to go through 3 people to find out what was really going on was very frustrating.Thursday came and the manager called me and very apologetically told me that the broken down truck was waiting for a part to come in and NOW their other truck had broken down. He then told me that they only have 2 trucks, so we were stuck. When our things finally arrived the team to unload was on time, however one of the men clearly smelled like marijuana (this smell was clearly present again after he came back from his lunch break). I will say the med were friendly and polite. One frustrating aspect of the unpacking was that the driver gave us the inventory list to check off items as they came into the house, so rather than being able to supervise inside we were stuck at the door with 2 clipboards trying to find the stickers on each item with the numbers as they came in.By the afternoon it was clear that these guys were ready to go home whether the job was done or not. They did not put together one of our tables and refused to put together our treadmill when we asked, stating, "we didn't take it apart, so we can't put it together" - the driver instructed us to called the local Allied branch in Lexington and "they would send someone out".My son's headboard was not attached to his bed - just propped against the wall. The most disturbing thing is that the children's bunk bed was put together using the wrong hardware and because of this they did not have enough screws so the top bunk was left unattached (just balanced) on the bottom bunk and it was completely unsafe, at risk for collapsing on a sleeping child below. We did not realize this until the next day.Lastly, our sleeper sofa was destroyed. The wooden frame was fractured, the fabric stained and the spring mechanism for the bed was broken with springs missing. There were other smaller less valuable items broken, but I understand this is the risk of a move and largely unavoidable. In summary:1. Poor local customer service. Unresponsive to complaints.2. Very poor communication regarding the timing of our delivery.3. Although I hope the intention was not to deliberately deceive, I felt like we were being lied to about the trucks being broken down. Why not just come out and tell me? I get it, things happen, just be honest.4. Delivery men left bunk bed damaged and unsafe due to incorrect screws being used. Sleeper sofa destroyed. I have filed a claim and am waiting to hear back.5. Late delivery (11 days after we expected it was to arrive).6. I have tried to call the national Allied company multiple times and have not received any meaningful response from them. Not even a simple apology. I take it back - they did offer a $50 compensation for the late delivery.7. In total, our move cost right around $16,000. Groan, I had hoped for better service.
8. Please do not choose Allied for your move.

This review may be long, but if you're considering Allied or Coleman or even Coleman Allied :) then please read on because you may encounter the same issues.  If you want to skip to the end, you can just start where it says SUMMARY, which summarizes our long and stressful move.  When I first started researching moving companies to move us from Texas to Colorado, I realized that pretty much all of them had mixed reviews.  Some did not even call me back for an estimate.  Coleman Allied not only called me back but sent over a very thorough, polite, professional representative, the very next day, to give us an estimate, go over what to expect, and presented us with a glossy full-color folder containing lots of useful information and a booklet of our rights and responsibilities (which they're required by law to do, it seems).  Well, right on.  With moving there are always some horror stories, but we went with Coleman Allied hoping that nothing bad would happen to us. They even dropped off some free boxes. Moving day arrives.  I notice a few pickup trucks driving around my neighborhood several times looking lost. Of course, I'm expecting a big truck or an 18 wheeler, not personal trucks.  After an hour or two one of those pickup trucks pulls up and tells me they're our loading crew and they were confused about the address because they had a typo for the house number.   They tell us the 18 wheeler is on the way and needs to get weighed.  We wait.  They were supposed to arrive between 8 and 10 but it was 1 PM before they did. The contracted  Texas based loading crew was fantastic.  They arrived on-time, and they taped down cardboard, covered the staircase with furniture blankets, covered and wrapped all the furniture, and even took some furniture apart.  It was hot and they were sweating.  Nobody was ever standing around and, in the end, I felt I tipped them well for their hard work and diligence.   There were two colemen representatives on site as well.  One tagged our stuff with stickers prior to the loading crew putting anything on the truck.  Everything was itemized and we signed off on it all.  He was fairly efficient in doing so and left when he was done. The other rep was really slow. Really really slow.  Really.  I had a question he didn't know the answer to and it took him 15 minutes to figure out how to call his partner.  First he had to call the main office, chit-chat with the girl that answered in his really slow voice, get his partner's phone number, and then call that number.  I wanted to stab myself in the eye.  But otherwise, no big deal - I was very pleased with the move so far.   Finally, we bid the truck farewall and looked forward to receiving our stuff on the other side in about the 5 or 6 days they promised us. And here, as has happened to many others I've discovered, is where the horror begins.  After the truck pulls away from your place, Coleman hands your move off to a "move coordinator" at their Headquarters in Georgia.  She had called me the day of the move to make sure everything was going well, which it was decently enough, and I felt glad at that point for having chosen them to move us.   Once we arrived in Colorado, I called her for status and she told me our truck was still in transit and that she was sure it would be arriving within a day or two.  So we patiently wait the day or two and I call her again to ask.  She says its still in transit but that she would try calling their CO office to track down the truck.  I don't remember if she called me back or not - sometimes she didand sometimes she didn't.  I made so many phone calls to them I lost count.   In any case, I believe it's the day after the promised delivery window elapsed that she informed me that our truck NEVER LEFT Texas, and due to another typo, the move was incorrectly flagged in their system as being in transit when it really wasn't. Wow. Fortunately we packed all our essentials in our cars and had sleeping bags to sleep on in our new apartment.  They agreed to compensate us up to $400 for air mattresses and basic necessities and promised us that the truck would be on its way ASAP. Well, it took another week and more phone calls for status and more cluelessness to where the truck was.  Seriously: in today's world of GPS and cell phones and considering that you're a moving company and THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS, how could you not know exactly where your trucks are and be able to communicate that to your customers?   Finally we're told the truck has arrived at their facility in Colorado and it would take another 3 or 4 business days to be delivered, because at this point we're subject to whatever availability and schedule the local office has.  So we start getting annoyed, and tell them that according to the  Rights and Responsibilities booklet they gave us, in the event of a delay we're entitled to have our new delivery date in writing.  our move coordinator said she would be happy to do so and would do it immediately and would also see what she could do to get us delivery faster. She calls back and tells me that the local office tried to call to schedule our move and left me a voicemail.  Except that I had no voicemail.  Later on I realized they were calling my old Texas number that was supposed to have been disconnected but that was still active and accepting voicemails.  The problem here is that I gave Coleman Allied both my wife and my cell phone numbers and told them that those were the only two numbers they should be calling to contact us.  I told our move coordinator. I told the sales guy.  I told the guys that brought the truck.  I made sure all the paperwork bound for the destination had those phone numbers on it. Well, good news: she was able to bump up our delivery to the very next day and did apologize for everything we had been through.  Fine, but we still don't have our stuff.   I told her that even if it's tomorrow I would still like it in writing.  She tells me she's going to do it right after hanging up the phone.   The next morning arrives and still no e-mail. More good news:  The unloading crew did arrive the next day.  They said they tried calling but got voicemail.  That's because despite telling all the Coleman American folks I encountered that the phone number we originally gave them would not be valid after we left Texas, they pretty much ignored that info. Once again the unloading people were stellar while the other two who came with the truck were less than enthusiastic.  So, they get the truck in place, and they start unloading.  Yay!  But wait - they did all that meticulous cataloging prior to loading each item, but they did not seem to care to do so while unloading.  We watched them closely and all our stuff seemed to be present and intact despite the Texas based loading crew having stacked lots of heavy boxes on top of light boxes and partially crushing many of them, as well as putting some stuff labelled STORAGE in the apartment side and vice versa.  We had one partical-board piece of furniture get damaged, but all in all, mission accomplished.   The unloading crew even brought back to our apartment those items that went to the storage facility that should not have. They worked quickly and efficiently and, for the most part, seemed to treat our stuff as if it were there own.
SUMMARY: Coleman Allied was very prompt, courteous, and professional prior and during loading (and unloading), despite being late to arrive.   But once that truck pulls away with your precious belongings they have you over a barrel.  Based on other reviews I've found online our move is not the first time their truck has never left the origin city.   Then they can't seem to tell you definitively when to expect your delayed items.  It's more than just an inconvenience, it's an outrage.  For the amount they charge for a whole-house interstate moves, with full insurance coverage, you would expect, as we did, better service and better communication.  There seems to be little recourse but to sit and wait.   I'd like to point out that we paid via credit card, which they charged prior to delivery, despite being promised we would only charged post-delivery. I didn't realize this at the time I agreed to pay that way.  But it's there in the fine print.  My fault on that.  I knew they pre-authorized it, which was fine, but I'm never thrilled to pay for work that has not been completed.  If we tried to dispute the charge I doubt that would accomplish anything but further delay delivery.   As I mentioned above, not every aspect of our move was bad, but the fact that the truck never left coupled with all the miscommunication and general lack of communication really made this a horrible move for us.  Thankfully it ended somewhat successfully and our stuff was only delayed a week.  Seemed like much longer.

Long-distance move from Alabama to Oklahoma

Moving from AL to OK.

My moving team..
The estimator (Stephen - Birmingham team) was friendly, professional, thorough, and informative. When I had questions, he took the time to explain every answer.

The moving coordinator (Lanai - Birmihgham team) was friendly and attentive to all questions. She did a great job checking in with me throughout the moving process to make sure my expectations were met or exceeded; which they were!

The packing team in Birmingham (Brenda, Daniel, Percy, and Jimmy) did a great job packing up my house. They were professional, southern-courteous (yes ma'am, no ma'am), and made the time, that's typically stressful for shippers, less stressful. I'm so thankful they packed my belongings with great care.

The loading team in Birmingham (Percy, Daniel, and Mike (aka Mr Brenda) also did a fantastic job wrapping up the furniture and loading my belongings. They completed the job quickly and just like the packing crew were professional and courteous. Not only did they NOT complain about having to move my baby grand piano, they made it seem like it was no big deal.

The unloading team from Broken Arrow (Chris, Orlando and Butch) were friendly and went above and beyond to get me settled in Owasso. When my house is built, I'll definitely be calling to have them move me again.

I can't say enough about the driver, Marco (OKC team). From the moment he arrived, he made me feel at ease with his professionalism and warmth. It was clear he understands how stressful moving across country can be - especially as a single woman doing it alone. And given that part of my belongings were going into storage, part into a garage, and the remainder into a temporary apartment, he assured me they would get everything into the right place; which they did! I also noticed his leadership skills in the way he treated both the team in Birmingham and in Broken Arrow professionally.

I've always had good experiences moving with Allied but this move far exceeded the others! It was truly a stress-free move for me.

A very happy customer,
Marlena B.

Long-distance move from Maine to Alabama

Untruthful, Dishonest, $36,000.00 Damage.

Our household furniture and other items were delivered to Coleman American Moving Services facility in Birmingham, Alabama for storage for 3 weeks prior to our residence being ready. We have $36,000.00 damage to out household goods which they have offered $1340.00 for. They lost an office unit which they can't locate. The damage was so significant that I demanded the unloading stop and the local operations manager come to my residence. He responded..now we learned his employment was terminated 2 weeks later.

Save yourself the grief. Hire a professional company who will respect your property.

Long-distance move from Dallas, TX to Winston Salem, NC

Horrible moving experience.

The load in at the my origin state was horrible. They loaded my trash bag in with the rest of the stuff, and when I asked for them to remove it later on, they lied to me and said "i got it" multiple times via text. Later, I see at the destination it has not been removed, and the mold infestation (to no surprise) grew worse. In a previous review, I said the only pros was Matt, the manager, was responsive to my requests.

I rescind my comments about Matt, the primary manager, being one of the pros. He contacted me to see if there was something that could be done about the negative review, and once I became too insulting of his worker who lied to me, he rescinded both his apology and his offer to provide some money back (which I absolutely deserve some money back as I did not receive what was agreed upon). Once again, LIARS. LIARS. LIARS.

No regard for your belongings.

Moving out was fine. Everything was wrapped up. But when they unloaded the truck they unwrapped everything before taking it off and all my wooden furniture was scratched and gouged and the upholstered pieces were covered with black handprints. Awful.

Long-distance move from Tennessee to Connecticut

Overcharge, packed +65% boxes, lost furn, late, inventory not checked.

Coleman Allied Nashville is a horrible company. Do not hire them. I hired them for my 88 year old mother to move from TN to CT last August. Estimator was nice enough, packers came and packed 119 boxes when the estimate was for 72- a 65% increase that we were charged an additional $1,033.29 for. These extra boxes were lightly packed with clothes from chests of drawers and hope chests- which the estimator told us did not need to be packed. The packers insisted the driver would not take chests that had things in them. Several pieces of furniture were damaged. They were a day later than the late delivery time-frame we contracted for. The driver would not allow them to check things off the inventory list when they unloaded the truck. The driver was rude and dismissive to my mother and sister who witnessed this all. They said they could return to unload in 3 days if they wanted to go over the inventory sheets as things were unloaded, but my mother had little to live with in her new residence so she was over a barrel and needed her late belongings. So my mom signed and now they say "Sorry, she signed for the inventory". They delivered some boxes and a table that were not ours. When we let them know, they came back and retrieved them. One had military legal papers in it, the other was an antique table that was could have been a family heirloom. I filed insurance claims totaling $2935.97 and we got a check for $1757.99 because they said the claimed lost boxes and a night stand can't be compensated because my mother signed when they delivered.

I began my nightmare complaint by calling the estimator, who stopped returning my calls. I called the coordinator, and she likewise stopped returning my calls. Then I called the front desk and asked for a manager. He said he would call me back and didn't . When I called in 2 weeks he said he was working on it and would get back to me. When I heard nothing I called again and they said the have a new manager. I left 2 messages for that person and he never called me back. I called national customer service and they were professional, but said their hands were tied because my mother signed for the delivery. They were understanding but unable to do anything except pay me $50 for a late delivery. Now my mother is missing furniture, household goods, and a big chunk of her retirement money.

Booo Allied Coleman, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I don't know how your employees can live with themselves when they work for you. I will never recommend you to anyone and I will tell as many people about this as will listen to me. I am sorry for our brave service families if you have ever have the military contact for moving household goods for our armed forces. You, Allied, should have refunded my mother her overcharged $1,592.29 and apologized profusely for the lost goods we were not compensated for, but you chose not to. You don't need an MBA to know that's really bad business.

Nightmare.

Name: Vikas O'Reilly-Shah

Move: Atlanta, GA to Seattle, WA
Salesperson: David Smith
Account Manager: Brandy Cole

Inaccurate pricing. See Attachment A email conversation with David (full thread available). We were quoted a price of about $XX,XXX for the entire move, including an initial early partial pack and move to the garage in January, followed by completion of the pack and move in April. We were instead charged $YYYY for the Jan/Feb work and $XX,XXX for the completion pack and move. On a call with Brandy Cole, she indicated that "I had signed the paperwork and that's what I owed" -- even though she was on the email chain with David where he explicitly stated that the initial quote was the entire charge.
Inaccurate dates/delayed delivery. See Attachment B for email confirmation of delivery spread. We were assured that we would absolutely have a delivery window of 4/30-5/1. Items did not arrive until 5/3.
Service was not completed. At the time of the load, there was an "overflow" situation and approximately 500lb of our items were shipped separately. We were not informed of this until 5/3, nor were we given the option to choose what items were shipped in the initial load versus the delayed load. As of writing on 5/6/2019, these items have not arrived nor have we been given a date for delivery. See Attachment C photo of overflow packing list.
Damaged goods. See Attachment D photos taken on the day of delivery. Original time/date stamped JPG available on request. Our master bedroom headboard and shorter master bedroom dresser arrived damaged. Unfortunately, these are two of the most expensive pieces of furniture we one. Obviously, we have not had the opportunity to assess the aforementioned overflow items that are undelivered as of writing. Also, we are still in the process of unpacking items e.g. glassware, paintings, pictures and further damage may be uncovered.
Poor unload. The team responsible for unloading items into our home at some point ceased to follow instructions for where to place boxes -- items for the basement were placed on the 2nd floor; items clearly labeled for the 2nd floor were placed in the basement; items for the basement, main, and 2nd floor were placed in the garage. We have had to search for boxes that we expected to be placed correctly, hindering our transition into the new home.
Faulty rebuild causing a safety issue for our children. See Attachment E for photos. Original time/date stamped JPG available on request. We discovered after 2 days (on 5/5 morning) that a convertible daybed had been rebuilt extremely poorly. The slats for the daybed had not been screwed into place but instead were simply placed -- haphazardly -- on the support. A small movement might have caused the bed to collapse. This was the bed for our children in the room they knew was the kids room.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Glendale, CA

Worse movers ever! Terrible experience!

Movers involved: Allied Van Lines and Coleman.

Consumer Customer Care: Shannon Davis (Coleman/Allied)

Sales Person in Coleman: Manny Contreras

Moved from Houston, TX to Glendale, CA. Moving expenses close to $3K for a 1 bedroom apartment. So far I have identified damages on a $2700 dollars brand new sofa, a Samsung QLED UHD 4k 65" TV, and the section of a floor lamp stolen. At pick-up, they declined to open the TV boxes and verify that the TVs were in good shape and very well protected in their original boxes. They only want to pay $625 dollars for patching up the damages on the Sofa minus $500 of the deductible of my protection plan, that leaves me only with $125dollars!!!??? Their claims department (A company called "Sirva") will hold the answer on the claim for 3 months and then they will offer peanuts. They declared themselves not responsible for damage on TV because they didn't wrap it. For the floor lamp they just ignored it saying that they didn't see the lamp neither at my place or at the storage. If you are planning a move, my recommendation is stay away from these companies and be very but very careful to what you sign to them at any time of the process. Lesson learned! Very important also to always bring these cases to the correspondent regulatory agencies.
